A divan is basically another name given to a complete bed set. Divan beds are commonplace and found in most bedrooms up and down the country. They are used to elevate or raise a mattress off the floor. The most common designs are of either sprung edge or platform top construction.
The divan bed does have an important role to play in the bedroom. Apart from been able to offer storage space with different drawer combinations it also does the following. First and foremost it will raise the height of the mattress from the floor. This helps enormously with getting in and out of bed. Secondly the base unit will act like a large shock absorber; this reduces wear and tear on by approximately 50% and finally it will form a nice flat and even surface making the mattress comfortable to lie down upon.
The general construction of a sprung edge base is a frame made of wood. This will support another box like structure which is loaded full of springs (the suspension or shock absorber part) finally the mattress is placed on top.
Standard platform top bases contain no springs and are just a simple wooden frame covered in fabric. These are the preferred choice if you require a firm response from your mattress and usually cost slightly less. The sprung edge seems more preferable if you require a more comfortable and bouncier feel.
Mattressland carries stock of both types; some models are of traditional design crafted using century old methods others designed using the most advanced manufacturing skills and machinery the bedding industry has to offer.
